How To Make The Best Ever Pancakes

Pancakes are arguably one of the best breakfast foods out there. They can be sweet or savoury, thin or thick, basically any style you want! However, although I am British, I really do not like thin pancakes, don’t hate me! So thats why this recipe is for the best thick pancakes made without buttermilk!

Most thicker pancakes or ‘American Style’ pancakes are made with buttermilk for the extra fluffiness, but this recipe gives you all the fluff without buttermilk. Which is perfect for someone like me who never has buttermilk in the house! With a few simple ingredients and steps, this really is the best pancake recipe for thick and fluffy pancakes.

Ingredients:

Don’t worry my fellow Brits, I have the got the measurements converted from cups to grams!

Dry Ingredients:

192 grams flour3 1/2 tsp baking powder1 tsp salt1 tbsp sugar

Wet Ingredients:

45 grams of butter1 egg 295 ml milk

  1. First melt the butter in a pan or microwave and leave to cool. You want the butter to be at room temperature so that you don’t curdle the milk when you add them all together.
  2. Then, you need to combine all of your dry ingredients into a big bowl and combine. Set this aside while you prepare your wet ingredients.
  3. In a jug, measure out 295ml of milk, it can be semi or skimmed it doesn’t matter. Then, add the egg and misk. Next, slowly add the melted butter, stirring continuously so that it doesn’t curdle.
  4. Next, you will need to combine the two mixtures together and whisk until smooth.
  5. Then, heat up a pan for your pancakes. I personally always use a non stick pan and use hardly any oil as I feel like this messes up your pancakes! So, just use a little oil to start with, I like using spray oils for this, and figure out what works best with your pan!
  6. Then, using a ladle, spoon the mixture into the pan, you don’t want the pan to be too hot or too cold, a medium temperature is perfect for this. Because we used baking powder, you will see little bubbles rise to the surface, I love this! When you see this, its often time to flip your pancake!
  7. Once you see the little bubbles and the bottom of the pancake can be moved without falling apart, flip it and cook on the other side.
  8. Cook through thoroughly, you will need to cook these longer as they are thicker, around 5-10 minutes per pancake, depending on size!
  9. Finally, serve with your favourite topping and enjoy!

I hope you enjoy this pancake recipe as much as I do! Whats your favourite pancake topping, let me know in the comments below!
