Looking to start a new blog? When starting up your blog, it can be intimidating to to know which site you should use. With so many sites offering different plans, from free to premium, you might be confused as to what plan to pick. Mostly though, you might be confused as to what website to pick. I have worked with both of these sites and so I thought I would share a bit more information as a user of these sites
WordPress is the site that I started on. I googled blogging sites a few years ago, and with over 75 million websites using WordPress, it’s no surprise that this came up first. Therefore, I started my first blog page on WordPress, as it seemed like it had some good features. Furthermore, a key feature to WordPress is their blogging and reader app, which seemed like a great opportunity to share my work!
When I first started, I had no clue about website designing, coding, SEO etc. I used the site and made a half decent blogging page (I hope it has improved!) which I used for a year. All in all, I found the site quite hard to use as I had no idea how to work a lot of the features and was confused with big words like “plug-ins.”
However, I gained good traction without doing that much, I was reaching around 100 site visitors a day just from posting. This feature makes WordPress have a great advantage for bloggers, as your work gets seen. After googling around a bit, I did manage to find some ways to improve the site. Although I still find WordPress hard to use sometimes.
WIX on the other hand is easy. Everything about the site is easy. You can build a decent site in about 10 minutes even if you have no computer skills. Their is plenty of instructions and apps, even in the free mode. The templates and designs make great websites, some of the best that I have seen on the web.
Furthermore, you can add lots of different pages to your site with ease, such as a blogging page, gallery and forum. It has such great features and it is so easy. This can have its drawbacks though as by assuming its so easy, you may miss out on the key understandings of running a website. For example, even after owning a WIX site for a year, I still had no idea on the tech side of maintaining and boosting my site. Therefore, its important to do research on how to make a successful site.
In addition to this, the one feature that WIX is missing for bloggers is a key one. The one that makes WordPress excel for bloggers, the ability to like and read other blogs with ease. This lack of traction means that no one will visit your site unless directed there. Of course, you can work with WIX to get your site to google (a premium feature) but you don’t get the bloggers and readers that you get on WordPress. Therefore, for an e-commerce business or service, WIX is such a great choice, but if you are looking to build a blog following, it may not be for you.
In conclusion, both are great choices, it comes down if you are looking for style or substance. You can choose the great looking WIX page with easy features or you can choose the more complicated WordPress but be ensured some form of blogging engagement. This decision may depend on your following and your blogging level. They also both other great apps that you can use on your smartphone to manage your pages. Either way, both are a great choice and both have positives and negatives!
